-*SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS*-
Any old IBM PC, XT, 286, PS2, 386, 486, or Pentium would be nice.
All DOS based machines, with or without Windows will work. For
users with Windows, it works fine. If you have Windows 3.1 and a
386 or better machine, you can run in the "WIN /3" mode with your
KBBS running in the background while using your computer for any
other thing you want to do at the same time.
You really need a hard drive. Our system doesn't use much space
(the whole thing fits on a 360K floppy without zipping). If you
plan on having a lot of files or games, you'll need more space.
Any old monitor will do. A color monitor allows you to see most
of the great looking screens in color, but it is not necessary.
You must have a modem. Any old modem that works at 1200, 2400,
14,400 baud or any speeds in between will work. No, 300 and 600
baud won't work. They are too slow, and if you have one, maybe
you ought to buy something faster.
A printer would be nice, but it is not absolutely necessary.
You really have to have a phone. If you have call waiting, then
you will really have problems. If you have call waiting and any
problems arise, don't call us; call the phone company. If you
plan on running a full-time KBBS, a second phone line is really
a good idea. You won't need touch-tone or any fancy features,
and it won't cost that much since all calls will be incoming.
If you have a text editor that is strictly ASCII only, like Qedit
or Windows "Notepad," you will find it easy to do advanced stuff
but it is not required. In the System Access area, with the KBBS
ONLINE EDITOR, you can do most things from your computer and when
calling from a remote site, too.
If you have meet all these requirements, it should be easy to get
KBBS working for you. Please take your time, and read the next
few messages:
202 Running the Install Program
203 Setup Your KBBS
300 Operations
Each is about a page long, and explains everything you need to
know to get started and have KBBS up and running really fast!
NOTE: You will need to know the COM PORT that is connected to
your modem, and the FASTEST speed that your modem will run.
